Maxim Kulkov to speak at the Russian International Arbitration Congress (RIAC)

The concept of inherent powers allows arbitrators to act flexibly and make necessary decisions to ensure a fair and efficient arbitration, even if such powers are not provided under applicable law or the parties’ agreement.

On 14 May, KK&P Managing Partner Maxim Kulkov will lead a session entitled From Implicit to Explicit: Understanding Arbitrators’ Inherent Powers at the main RIAC conference. Maxim and his colleagues will discuss who controls the arbitration process, the arbitrators or the parties?

During the session, speakers will also cover the issues of the challenges that can be faced when defining inherent powers, the possibilities of limiting these powers, and the balance between the autonomy of arbitrators and the parties’ rights. The speakers will present their positions from the point of view of both the Arbitrators and the Counsels, and will answer questions from the audience.

The event will take place in English on 14 May from 12.00 till 13.30 at The Carlton, Moscow Hotel (Tverskaya Street, 3).

The other speakers will be Fatima Balfaqeeh (Advocates & Legal Consultancy), Bernardo M. Cremades (B. Cremades y Asociados), David Goldberg (Pinna Goldberg), Lilia Klochenko (Klochenko & Partners) and Abraham Vergis (Providence Law Asia).
